ADM Girls Dominate State Qualifier, Punch Tickets to Drake State
The ADM Tigers are headed back to Drake Stadium in a big way after dominating the Class 3A State Qualifying Meet Thursday night at Glenwood High School. The ADM girls captured the team title with 175 points while the Tiger boys also claimed first place with 172 points.
For the ADM girls, the performance continues an impressive championship tradition as the Tigers prepare to defend their back-to-back Class 3A state titles next week at the Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships beginning Thursday, May 21 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
ADM qualified athletes and relay teams across nearly every discipline on the track and in the field. The Tigers swept the automatic state qualifying spots in the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles as seniors Elise Coghlan and Haley Nelson finished first and second respectively. Coghlan also claimed another district title in the 400 Meter Hurdles while freshman Clara Uthe earned the runner-up position to send both Tigers to state in that event as well.
Senior thrower Lauren Hagedorn delivered a dominant night in the field events, winning both the Girls Shot Put and Girls Discus Throw to punch her ticket to Drake Stadium in two events. Junior Isabelle Book also secured an individual state berth by winning the Girls 200 Meter Dash.
ADM showcased its depth and speed in the relay events, qualifying six relay teams for state competition. The Tigers won district championships in the 800 Sprint Medley, 4x100 Relay, 4x200 Relay, 4x400 Relay, and the 4x100 Shuttle Hurdle Relay. ADM also advanced to state with a runner-up finish in the 4x800 Relay.
The Tigers will now turn their focus toward next week's state meet where ADM will attempt to bring home a third consecutive Class 3A girls state championship.
