Back to State! Girls Soccer Knocks off Spencer
The ADM Girls Soccer Team has earned a spot in the Class 2A State Tournament after a dominant 3-0 win over Spencer on Friday night in the Region 8 final in Spencer, Iowa.
The Tigers entered the match with a record of 10-6-1 and ranked #9 in Class 2A. The Tigers were undeterred by Spencer's impressive 15-3 record. ADM quickly showed their resilience and skill, breaking the scoring in the first half. A 1-0 lead at the halftime break set the stage for a second-half surge.
Spencer's offensive attempts were repeatedly thwarted by senior goalkeeper Alayna Freeman, who was instrumental in securing the shutout. ADM padded their lead with two more goals in the second half, cementing their victory and sealing their ticket to the state tournament with a 3-0 final score.
This marks an incredible achievement for the Tigers, especially in the first year under new head coach Rachel Harada. With the win, ADM is now the five-seed in the Class 2A bracket and is set to face fourth-seeded Independence in the state tournament on Tuesday, June 3, at 1:45 p.m. The match will take place at the Lied Recreational Fields in Ames.
