Tiger Wrestling Qualifies Four to State Tournament

The ADM Tigers are sending four wrestlers to the 2026 IHSAA Class 3A State Individual Wrestling Tournament after a strong showing at the District 8 State Qualifying Meet held Saturday, February 14th at Norwalk High School.

ADM finished fourth as a team with 118.5 points in a highly competitive district that featured several of the state's top programs. The top three finishers in each weight class advanced to the state tournament, and the Tigers rose to the occasion with three district champions and one third-place finisher punching their tickets to Des Moines.

District Champions Lead the Way

106 pounds – Paxton Sutter (1st Place)
Sutter delivered a dominant performance throughout the day. He opened with a 19-2 technical fall over Gabriel Colunga (Norwalk) in 2:24, followed by a semifinal pin of Carter Schroeder (Pella) at 5:25. In the championship match, Sutter secured a hard-fought 4-1 decision over Kiernan Dunlay (Prairie, Cedar Rapids) to claim the district title.

138 pounds – Grayson Sutter (1st Place)
Grayson Sutter was equally impressive on his path to gold. He pinned Brody Bailey (Waukee Northwest) in just 44 seconds in the quarterfinals and followed with another fall over Madox Ward (Norwalk) in 2:42. In the finals, Sutter edged Kash Kiner (Valley, West Des Moines) by a 2-1 decision to secure the championship.

150 pounds – Ethan Johnson (1st Place)
Johnson put together one of the most dominant runs of the tournament. He earned a 17-1 technical fall over Hunter Haynes (Pella) in the quarterfinals and pinned Tre`Veon Clark (Valley, West Des Moines) in 1:36 in the semifinals. In the championship match, Johnson capped his day with a 21-5 technical fall over Ben Gallagher (Waukee Northwest) at the 5:56 mark.

Krug Battles Back for State Berth

165 pounds – Henry Krug (3rd Place)
After receiving a first-round bye, Krug won a tight 8-6 decision over Garan Hynek (Prairie, Cedar Rapids) in the quarterfinals. Following a semifinal loss, Krug responded with a 7-1 decision over Isaac Mathema (Waukee Northwest) in the consolation semifinals. He sealed his trip to state with a third-place match pin over Hynek in 3:53.

Strong Effort Across the Lineup

ADM saw several other wrestlers compete deep into the consolation brackets, including Hudson Lewerke (175), Rhett Boston (190), and Tommy Harbison (285), who each advanced to third-place matches in their respective weight classes. The Tigers demonstrated depth and resilience throughout the tournament against some of Class 3A's toughest competition.


State Tournament Information

The ADM state qualifiers will compete in the Class 3A State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Casey's Center in Des Moines from February 18–21. Class 3A action begins Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
