Tigers Win 2 OT Thriller - Advance to Regional Final
GILBERT – The ADM Girls Basketball team secured a thrilling postseason victory on Saturday night, defeating Gilbert 65-58 in double overtime to advance to the Class 4A regional final. The win was ADM's first over their conference rival this season after previously falling to Gilbert twice in the regular season.
In a game filled with drama and clutch performances, ADM managed to flip the script after two earlier losses to Gilbert. The first quarter set the tone for the battle, with ADM holding a narrow 12-11 lead after the first eight minutes. The second quarter remained tightly contested, with ADM taking a slight 22-19 advantage into halftime. Both teams continued to trade baskets in the third, as ADM maintained a 34-31 edge heading into the final quarter.
Down 42-40 with just 27 seconds left in regulation, sophomore Alexis Maxwell delivered a clutch layup to tie the game at 42, forcing overtime. In the first extra period, ADM found themselves trailing again, 47-45, with 20 seconds remaining. Sophomore Emma Worley attempted a go-ahead three-pointer, but when it fell short, senior Kelli Storck was there for the putback, sending the game to a second overtime tied at 47-47.
In the second overtime, ADM took full control, erupting for 18 points. Maxwell sealed the victory at the free-throw line, capping off her team-high 17-point performance. Storck contributed 13 points, while Worley added nine. Gilbert's Callie Hales led all scorers with 23 points, while Abby Patel added 16 in a strong effort.
With the win, ADM improves to 15-9 on the season and moves on to face North Polk in Tuesday night's regional final, where a trip to the state tournament is on the line. Meanwhile, Gilbert concludes its season with a 13-9 record.
ADM will look to carry this momentum into their third meeting with North Polk, hoping to extend their postseason run and punch their ticket to the state tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
