Tigers Falls to North Polk in RRC Opener
The ADM Tigers girls basketball team battled hard but fell to the North Polk Comets, 60-35, in the Raccoon River Conference opener Friday night. A competitive first half showed promise for the Tigers, but a strong second-half push from the Comets proved to be the difference.
A Strong Start for ADM
North Polk opened the game on a 13-4 run, but ADM responded with grit and energy. Freshman Ella Subbert provided a spark, capping the first quarter with a desperation three-pointer to pull the Tigers within three at 13-10.
The second quarter followed a similar script. North Polk built an 11-point lead midway through the frame, but ADM again answered with a 6-0 burst, cutting the deficit to four points. A late layup by North Polk senior Lauren Ausborn sent the Comets into the halftime break with a 25-19 lead.
Turnovers and Pressure Shift Momentum
The turning point came in the third quarter, as North Polk applied full-court pressure to disrupt ADM's offense. The defensive intensity led to turnovers and easy buckets for the Comets, who outscored ADM 19-6 in the quarter to take a commanding 44-25 lead and the Comets closed out the game with a 60-35 victory.
