Tigers Drop Close Battle to DCG
The ADM Tigers girls basketball team fought hard in a wire-to-wire contest against Dallas Center-Grimes (DCG) on Tuesday night but came up just short, falling 48-44.
First Half: A Close Contest
ADM came out strong in the first quarter, edging DCG 15-14 thanks to efficient scoring from sophomore Alexis Maxwell and senior Kelli Storck. The Mustangs responded in the second quarter with a 10-7 advantage, led by junior Leah Brauch and sophomore Macy Meyer, to take a narrow 24-22 lead into halftime.
Second Half: Balanced Play
The third quarter saw both teams score 11 points, as ADM's defense kept the Mustangs from extending their lead. ADM continued to rely on Maxwell's outside shooting and solid contributions from junior Madelyn Roundcount.
In the fourth quarter, DCG managed to hold onto their slim lead, outscoring ADM 13-11 to secure the 48-44 victory. ADM had several opportunities late in the game but struggled to convert critical possessions into points.
Key Performers
- Alexis Maxwell led the Tigers with 11 points, including three three-pointers.
- Storck and Roundcount each added eight points, while junior Lauren Hagedorn chipped in with six rebounds and eight points of her own.
Team Effort
ADM's defense forced eight steals and held DCG's shooters to just 4-for-24 from beyond the arc. However, turnovers proved costly for the Tigers, as DCG capitalized on ADM's 15 giveaways to maintain their lead. ADM was efficient from the free-throw line, hitting 4-of-8 attempts, but missed opportunities in the paint ultimately made the difference.
What's Next?
With the loss, ADM falls to 2-2 on the season and will look to bounce back in their next matchup on Friday at home against North Polk
