Tigers Prevail in Season Opener

Tigers Prevail in Season Opener

The ADM Girls Basketball team kicked off their 2024-25 season in dramatic fashion Friday night, using a dominant fourth quarter to surge past Des Moines Christian (DMC) for a 48-41 victory. The Tigers season opening win also delivered the first win for new head coach Danielle Craig.

A Defensive Battle Early
Both teams struggled to find offensive rhythm in the opening quarter. Defense ruled the game in the first half, as DMC took an 8-6 lead into the second quarter. ADM managed to briefly claim a 14-12 advantage late in the half, but a three-pointer from DMC senior Meg Muller just before the buzzer gave the Lions a slim 15-14 lead at the break.

Offenses Ignite in the Third
The pace quickened in the third quarter, with the Lions building a seven-point. However, ADM clawed back to narrow the gap to 32-29 heading into the final period, setting the stage for a thrilling finish.

ADM Takes Over the Fourth Quarter
The Tigers exploded offensively in the fourth, outscoring the Lions 19-9 to take control of the game. ADM's balanced attack featured key contributions from senior Kelli Storck, senior Aniston Tollari, junior Lauren Hagedorn, and freshman Ella Subbert. Storck, who led all scorers with 18 points, helped secure a 46-35 lead late in the game, giving ADM the cushion needed to fend off a last-minute DMC rally.

Key Performers
Storck's standout night was complemented by Hagedorn's 11 points and Subbert's eight. On the defensive end, ADM forced numerous turnovers and held the Lions to 9 points in the fourth quarter.

Team Stats Despite a challenging night at the free-throw line (5-for-14), ADM's defense and timely scoring proved decisive. The Lions, meanwhile, struggled to convert their opportunities from the stripe, going 15-for-26.

What's Next?
ADM (1-0) will aim to build on this strong start when they return to action Monday night at home against Norwalk.
