Tigers Open Season with Statement Win at Winterset

The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Tigers hit the road Friday night and opened the 2025 football season with an impressive 45-20 victory over rival Winterset at Winterset High School. Behind a balanced offensive attack and timely defensive stops, ADM controlled the game from start to finish to move to 1-0 on the season.

Fast Start for the Tigers

After both teams punted on their opening possessions, ADM struck first. Junior Alex Jensen capped the Tigers' second drive with an 18-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead. Senior quarterback Hudson Shull then connected with senior wideout Ethan Uglum on a 25-yard strike before the end of the first quarter, extending the margin to 14-0.

The second quarter saw ADM continue to build momentum. Senior kicker Colby Simons drilled a 39-yard field goal, and senior running back Reed Obstarczyk powered into the endzone from one yard out after junior defensive back Eli Wiebers recovered a fumble. By halftime, the Tigers were in command, leading 24-0.

Huskies Battle Back

Winterset came out strong after the break. Senior Ben Porter finished off a methodical drive with a 1-yard touchdown run, followed by a successful two-point conversion, trimming the deficit to 24-8.

ADM responded quickly as Shull hit junior Ben Plaisance on a 30-yard touchdown pass to push the lead back to 31-8. However, Winterset capitalized on an onside kick and two quick scores to make it 31-20, creating some tension in the third quarter.

Tigers Close the Door

Rather than folding, ADM finished strong. Shull and Obstarczyk added late rushing touchdowns to put the game out of reach. The defense clamped down, highlighted by junior Tyler Kneip's interception and solid tackling across the board.

When the final horn sounded, ADM had sealed a convincing 45-20 win on the road.
