ADM Rallies Past DCG
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn baseball team delivered a dramatic comeback on Tuesday night in Grimes, scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning to stun Dallas Center-Grimes, 5-3, and earn their second win of the season.
After six innings, the Tigers found themselves in a tough spot. Dallas Center-Grimes broke a scoreless tie in the third inning and added two more runs in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead, putting ADM just three outs away from defeat.
But the Tigers had other plans.
In the top of the seventh, sophomore Mason Entriken sparked the rally with a line-drive single to center field that scored junior Ben Plaisance, cutting the deficit to 3-1. ADM continued to apply pressure, eventually loading the bases with two outs.
That set the stage for junior Hudson Lewerke.
Lewerke delivered the biggest swing of the night, blasting a deep drive to left field for a grand slam. The clutch hit scored Entriken, junior Cole Waddingham, junior Tyler Kneip, and Lewerke himself, giving ADM a stunning 5-3 lead.
The Tigers then shut the door in the bottom of the seventh, securing the comeback victory.
On the mound, junior Jack Siefken earned the win, pitching five innings while allowing just two hits and three runs. He struck out seven batters and worked through four walks. Junior Talan Hansen closed out the game in relief, tossing two strong innings while allowing only one hit and striking out three.
Offensively, Entriken led the Tigers with two hits and an RBI, while Lewerke's grand slam accounted for four RBIs. Plaisance added a double and scored a run in the comeback effort.
With the win, ADM improves to 2-3 on the season, while Dallas Center-Grimes falls to 0-4.
The Tigers return home to Adel for a doubleheader against Waukee Northwest, with first pitch of game one scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
