Tigers Advance to Semifinals

The ADM Tigers are one step closer to a Class 4A State Championship after a thrilling 4-1 extra-inning win over the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs on Monday in the opening round of the Iowa High School State Softball Tournament. The Tigers' bats roared to life late in the game at Iowa Central Field in Fort Dodge, fueling a four-run surge in the ninth inning to clinch the win.

A Tight Battle Early On

In a much-anticipated showdown between the 4th-seeded Mustangs and 5th-ranked Tigers, it was DCG that struck first. Mustang sophomore Jenah Gray showcased her power with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the 1st inning, putting DCG ahead 1-0. That lead held for several tense innings as both teams' pitchers commanded the game.

ADM junior Lauren Hagedorn not only kept her team within striking distance from the circle but delivered the equalizer in the top of the 6th inning—a towering solo homer to left field off DCG's Tessa Jones. Hagedorn's clutch hit sent waves of energy through the Tiger dugout and swung the momentum.

Ninth-Inning Breakthrough

Locked in a 1-1 battle, the game headed to extra innings, and that's when ADM's offense ignited. Senior Madi James led off the top of the 9th with a double, setting the stage for sophomore Makenna Pitlick, who smashed an RBI double to bring James home and give ADM a 2-1 lead—their first of the game.

Freshman Aubrey Noring followed with a single that brought in courtesy runner Kate Darling, extending the lead to 3-1. Noring then showcased her speed, scoring all the way from first after senior Aniston Tollari launched a ball deep to left that DCG's left fielder couldn't handle. That error allowed the Tigers to stretch their lead to 4-1.

Dominant Pitching from Hagedorn

Both pitchers went the distance in a remarkable duel. DCG's Tessa Jones gave up 10 hits and 4 runs over 9 innings, with 7 strikeouts and just 1 walk. But it was Hagedorn who came away with the win, holding the Mustangs to 7 hits and 1 run while also striking out 7 in her complete-game performance.

DCG attempted a late rally in the bottom of the 9th, getting two runners aboard, but Hagedorn and the Tiger defense held firm, stranding both runners to secure the win.

Next Up: Pella in the Semifinals

With the victory, ADM improves to 28-8 on the season and advances to the Class 4A Semifinals. The Tigers will face 8th-seeded Pella tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at the Channel Seeds Field in the Harlan Rogers Sports Complex.
